Problems need to be looked at the "why", "how" and the "what". It is crucial to define problems and goals in business and domain specific terms. This the "why" part. The architecture then aims to translate these to system design requirements explaining the "how" Execution plans cater to the "what" needs to be done and "when".

This means breaking down the problem into smaller and simpler subproblems, identifying the root causes, and finding the interdependencies and trade-offs among the subproblems.
