There's 2 things to understand with production costs. #1 You're paying a premium for the expertise of the company and this is a varied cost. #2 You're paying for the production costs themselves and these will be relatively the same across the board (location rentals, makeup artists, actors, etc.) The best way to save on costs is to be fully transparent with the production companies that you speak to so that they are able to create a plan for you that meets your goals without breaking the bank. If they know exactly what you're looking for, they can decide the most cost effective way to do it and you'll have a much better chance at getting a better deal.
