Here is my advice to anyone who is moving from his/her current industry to a new industry. Consider it just as you are moving to a new place or changing region. What you will do: 1. Research 2. Gather data 3. Speak to people One of the approaches I strongly recommend my network who are switching industries is to look other people profiles within the same industry, now that is the research part. Next, collect useful keywords and phrases which you are missing out and add them up in your profile. You could also speak with industry specific experts who may provide additional assistance. Do not be shy in using AI tools! These exist to support and help you. And when it's free, go ahead and use it to your advantage.

It is very important to clearly understand the functional, technical and soft skills requirements to work in the new industry, as there are often illusions that starting a "new" career is super easy. Seek advice from other people who have been working in the new industry for a few years, and with proven experience. #Linkedin is a great tool for you to connect with such people, seeking an initial conversation. Try to study the concepts, frameworks and particularities of the new industry to have the minimum knowledge about it, even to be able to stand out in recruitment interviews.

There is no doubt that transitioning can be tough but there are ways to find a bit of ease with your CV and cover letter. For me, tailoring your for each role might be too tasking and unnecessary so I advice, tailor your CV to specific niches within that industry which can serve as a CV with the same role to several companies. Also, just transitioning? Engage in several projects, volunteer services and internships within that industry. While writing that CV or cover letter, let your achievements speak for you. Finally, your CV should not be an ideas board instead the value you are offering and how the industry will benefit from you should be your selling point.

When transitioning to a new industry, it's essential to tailor your resume and cover letter to highlight relevant skills and experiences. Start by researching the industry to understand the key skills employers value. Then, focus on transferable skills from your previous roles, such as leadership, problem-solving, or communication, and match them to the job requirements. Use clear examples to show how these skills have led to success in your past roles. In your cover letter, explain your motivation for the switch, emphasizing your passion for the new field. This approach will show you're both qualified and committed to the transition.
