Start by focusing on these critical areas. Regression tests, which confirm that new changes haven't disrupted existing functionality, should be prioritized due to their importance. While automated testing tools can efficiently handle a large volume of test cases, it's essential to reserve manual testing for complex scenarios where human judgment plays a pivotal role.

Ahead of time, the user stories (or more traditionally, the requirements) should have been prioritised, either through the discussions to better understand them, or refinement ceremonies. In doing so, you should have a clear idea of what your "MVP" is or priority deliverables are, and thus what needs to be tested first. Whilst that in itself doesn't guarantee "top notch" results (that's a whole different approach and process to discuss) it does at least stand you in good stead in terms of testing the right things first.

Prioritize tests according to their importance in the flow. If a module is such that it is most likely to be visited, keep it in top priority else for the last. If severity such as crashing issue is there & already known, get them fixed instantly. Also keep customer requirements as a priority because they have to be fulfilled to the maximum but, without any fatal errors.

You should not jump into automation blindly. If I am in a time crunch, I cannot sit to make my automation code. In that much time, I can test it manually. If my automation code is made before hand and only minor changes has to be made then it makes some sense. In case resources are not available, you should not keep waiting for it. Some cases where automation is too hard & time taking or even impossible, avoid wasting time on them like captcha code, gmail, etc.
