For instance, conduct phishing simulation exercises using types of phishing emails that are currently trending. If it's tax season, for instance, discuss phishing scams related to tax filing. Around holiday seasons, talk about safe online shopping habits to prevent credit card theft and fraud.

From my experience, using humour in security awareness training may seem counter-intuitive. Because security is perceived as serious thus humour may feel as you are mocking cyber security. And yet, it is the best way to help people internalize the needed security knowledge that is relevant to help them develop new cyber security hygiene habits. When we feel negative emotions, our brain is working around the clock to manage our body energy levels. Thus anything that does not belong to our basic survival functions is not important. Learning and processing new information feels hard as it requires mental energy you don't have. But when your body feels relaxed, and you are having fun, your brain can process with less stress, much less.

GAMIFY: Make cybersecurity fun for employees is to gamify the learning process. For example, you could create a cybersecurity quiz or scavenger hunt that rewards employees for correctly identifying phishing emails or spotting security vulnerabilities in the workplace. You could also host a cybersecurity-themed escape room or puzzle challenge, where employees must work together to solve security-related challenges. Another idea is to offer incentives or prizes for employees who demonstrate good cybersecurity practices, such as using strong passwords or reporting suspicious activity. By making cybersecurity a fun and engaging activity, you can help employees stay motivated and invested in protecting themselves and the company.

Try to do a few quizzes at the end of the seminar and maybe try rewarding the top three with a prize such as a flash drive etc.

To make cybersecurity easy for employees, you can provide them with simple and clear guidelines for protecting themselves and the company. This can include easy-to-follow instructions for setting up strong passwords, avoiding phishing scams, and reporting suspicious activity. You can also provide employees with tools and resources that make it easy to stay secure, such as password managers, anti-virus software, and security training videos. As mentioned earlier, try to keep it as simple as possible. If a lot of technical terms are included then this is off putting for the audience as they don't know much about it. Try to add in a few funny quotes in between.

By involving them in the decision-making process, employees feel a sense of ownership, strengthening overall cybersecurity posture. It's not just about policies; it's about creating a community dedicated to safeguarding organizational digital environment.

Make it POSITIVE & SOCIAL: To make cybersecurity a positive experience for employees, you can focus on the benefits of good cybersecurity practices rather than the potential risks. E.g. You can emphasize how good cybersecurity can help employees protect their personal information, avoid identity theft & safeguard their online reputation To engage with social, you can leverage social media platforms to share positive cybersecurity messages & tips. You can create social media campaigns that encourage employees to share their own cybersecurity success stories or tips with their colleagues. Use social media to share cybersecurity news & updates, such as the latest threats or vulnerabilities, and to promote cybersecurity training and resources

Try to involve your end users in pilot testing phase and get their feedback on it. If cybersecurity trainings are being conducted, you can ask for their feedback and how can the programme be improved.

Use meetings that happen on a regular basis based on the business of your organization to advertise cybersecurity and security in general. Creative use of blogs, flash messages, training and even poster boards are great ways to get users acquainted with security liabilities to assets and to the organization as a whole

Try this! Incredibly effective. During someone else's talk or training that has anything, or could have anything, to do with cybersecurity... Insert one or two slides, be ready for the introduction, standup, have fun, deliver, graciously smile, sit down. Include very simple contact information on the slide and invite everyone to reach out for anything at all. Related or not! Have fun with it.

Use stories. I was attending a cybersecurity conference in Boston. It was early, and my head was foggy from a long commute. The speaker started talking about their invention, a bicycle that made them look like a Centar. It was ridiculous, it got my attention, and it got 20 million likes on social networks. Leading with boring stats and vulnerabilities is predictable and requires high amounts of attention. Earning attention with a story made the rest of the conference more memorable and engaging.
