In my experience, there are some questions that we can make a good plan to answer but, there are others that you should try and check first to be able to see if the way to investigate and give an answer, is reliable. Mind map and drawing the situation, making notes, are some tools I use for clear and logical thinking before answering the questions and solve the problem.

To start by truly understanding the problem and it's causes is ALWAYS the first step! This is the moment you need to use smart tools to help you, I strongly recommend using the A3 methodology and it's tools to investigate the problem (Pareto's diagram, 5 Whys, brainstorming...). When you truly identify the root causes of a problem then you will optimizy your energy in actions that will solve it. Generally by following this methodology problems tend to become much clear for anyone to understand and to apply the actions for it's solution.

This question needs to be adjusted a bit. You should be applying logic rules throughout. In fact, identifying a problem is only possible through logic. In order to identify something, we need to first distinguish between the concept itself, and a name (a word) that we may give it. Sometimes different words can refer back to the same concept, or the same word can have multiple meanings. In addition, we need to know what properties does our problem have. Which of them are essential (i.e. if this problem didn't have this property, would it still be a problem)?

There are many logical tools that we can use. One of the more important uses of logical rules is in verifying our assumptions. Using rules of deduction we can start with a statement of a possible diagnosis and check all implications to catch any obvious mistakes that can waste a lot of precious time.

Observation is always more of an art than a science, but once we have what we think are facts, we need to be able to understand what it is that they're saying. Here, again, we'll use deductive reasoning to check all implications of our observations. Note that sometimes we will see something that will not make sense or will give us absurd implications. We will need to know how to deal with this situation. Either adjust our observation methods or change our assumptions.

it's important to use the same logic that brought you to your conclusions to communicate your solution. First of all, you will find that not everyone is on the same page as to what is a problem and what can be considered an acceptable solution. From there, make sure to walk through the essentials of your reasoning, but not the whole thing. You went through a lot of trial and error, dead end logical chains and what not. There is no reason to burden people with all that. Be brief but be ready to expand on any of the points of contention.

People throw words around, not necessarily understanding differences. For example, what's the difference between inferring something vs deducing it? Get comfortable with it, let logic become your daily way of thinking. This way when the pressure is on you can think fast.
