Based on collected data define the problem brief. Look beyond the symptoms to identify the root cause. Seek input from different stakeholders who are affected. Evaluate the significance and impact of the problem. Formulate potential solutions. Brainstorm potential solutions. Encourage creativity and consider different approaches. Generate a range of ideas without evaluating them at this stage.

2 Analyze the situation

Once you have identified the problem, you need to analyze the situation and understand the root causes, the possible consequences, and the influencing factors. You can use various tools and techniques to help you with this, such as SWOT analysis, fishbone diagrams, or 5 whys. Analyzing the situation helps you to identify the gaps, risks, and opportunities that you need to address in your solution.

The "Five Whys" is a simple but effective technique for problem analysis and root cause uncovering. Clearly state the problem you want to analyze. For example, let's say the problem is "Why have we lost our key customer?" Repeat the process of asking WHYS until the answer is no longer a simple cause-and-effect relationship. We lost our key customer because we failed to meet the due date. Why did we fail to meet the due date? Too many breakdowns. Why do we have too many breakdowns? We have hired fresh graduates. why did you hire fresh graduates? They needed new and fresh ideas. Why didn't the fresh graduates have the necessary experience? Because the company didn't have a mentorship or training program in place."

3 Generate alternatives

The next step is to generate as many possible solutions as you can, without judging or rejecting them at this stage. You need to use your creativity, logic, and knowledge to come up with different options that could solve the problem.
