It's super important for SA's to spend a good amount of time understanding the current state architecture. Always remember things are the way they are because of a solid reason and it worked for what it was designed to however, there are always new ways to skin the old cat, 1. Continuous Learning 2. Networking 3. Hands-on: super critical if you can't prove your theory you won't be heard. 4. Find a good mentor and learn from everyone 5. Collaborate 6. Study successful use cases and industry best practices. Understand objective of architecture and existing solutions blocks. ->Is it fulfilling the requirements? Yes -> issue might be in implementation/configuration/technology stack No -> Look for alternative solutions which can enhance or fix the issue as per requirements specifications. Communicate with stakeholder to determine functional and non-functional solution.

I agree but we need to understand the problem from stakeholders view points. Hence, we should conduct stakeholders interviews to understand the problems better. Also, domain experts plays important role in providing information about the problem domain to Architects. Hence, domain experts and architects should work together to understand the problem. This is about domain driven design.

Run and validate your solution using functional and non-functional solution. Create matrix to identify any decaying or bottleneck of solutions. Its not possible to design perfect solution as per specification as each problem is unique and solution will be unique to the problem.
