I always recommend starting with identifying where you currently stand in terms of key metrics. - how many days does it take between a DOS and the claim being submitted? - what is the current average clean pass rate? - what is your current front end rejection rate? Now that you know where you are currently you can look at opportunities for improvement. From bulk daily eligibility checks to utilizing an intuitive rules engine, to holding providers accountable for encounters being closed on a regular basis. Set some standards and most importantly put levels of accountability in place to ensure the practice’s metrics begin improving.

If errors do happen, I’d analyze them to find out where they’re coming from and why. Then, I’d make sure the right people are in place to fix those problems and prevent them from happening again. This way, we can manage claims more efficiently and reduce mistakes.
