Many people confuse User Testing with Usability Testing. So here's the difference : User testing seeks to verify that users need and want your product while Usability testing ensures that users can effectively use the product to accomplish tasks. While user testing is primarily aimed at understanding users’ needs, problems and evaluating how your product appeals to them, usability testing is much more focused on evaluating the functionality and ease of use of the product itself. To better highlight the difference we can say that user testing is about the users, while usability testing is more about the product.

Often, valuable user insights are already at our fingertips, without spending almost a dollar. Industry reports from Gartner or Forrester, and discussions on professional forums like LinkedIn, can uncover what's currently engaging your customers. These readily available resources offer a window into prevalent issues and emerging trends, guiding potential directions for your product development

During discussion about survey, not much was talked about conjoint analysis. Conjoint analysis is powerful survey based tool which identifies how much a specific feature is valued by a customer. When a product is undergoing specific feature additions or updates a conjoint analysis can determine how much potential does the feature have in the market. How are the features perceived in correlation to the existing product.

While it’s important to get direct feedback from users, there is also value in taking advantage of the internal teams within your company that work with customers every day. Customer support, client success, sales - all of these groups are listening to, speaking with, problem solving for, and serving users. Maintain a strong relationship between Product & these groups and establish a way to gather input from them. This could be as simple and periodic syncs with those teams, or feedback forms to gather suggestions. Make sure to credit these teams if/when work is done based on their input, it will continue to strengthen the loop.
