Building a cohesive company culture is like cultivating a thriving garden. Quick wins are the vibrant flowers that attract attention, but a sustainable garden requires tending to the roots. Focus on fostering a strong foundation of values, trust, and open communication. These are the roots that will keep your company culture healthy and resilient even when the quick wins fade.

Define and communicate long-term objectives alongside short-term targets. This helps ensure that quick wins contribute to broader organizational goals and maintain a sense of direction.

While striving for quick wins can generate momentum and boost morale, it's essential to ensure that these achievements align with the long-term goals of the organization’s culture. Quick wins should reflect the company’s core values, reinforcing the principles that shape its identity. To maintain cohesion, it's important to communicate the broader vision alongside immediate successes, so employees see how these short-term gains contribute to the bigger picture. Recognizing collaborative efforts over individual achievements can further strengthen the team dynamic, fostering a sense of unity.

We human beings are driven by rewards and recognition. This is what we remember. This is what creates the momentum and motivation to change. The rewards direct attention - into the moment (short term). Wherever our attention goes, we do more of that. Recognition enforces the desired behaviour. As a leader of transformation, direct people's attention to their efforts (quick wins) rather than (larger) achievements. Achievements are conditioned by external factors (there can only be one winner of a marathon) , efforts are invested by each individual independently (every athlete who finishes the run). Acknowledging individual efforts towards a common vision is what increases trust in leadership and engagement towards lasting change.
