Although someone can simply open up an application like Microsoft Paint, or if they have access, Photoshop or another creative design software, it is not always easy to understand where to start the project. Even with modern tools available today, it's not always clear what steps to take. One of the first things I do in my graphic design work is assess the scope of the project. I consider how the artwork will be used and whether it might need to be adapted for other formats beyond the initial one I'm developing.

When starting the design process, I always consider how it would look to a first-time customer accessing the content. Does it appeal to me? Does it fit with the client's existing structure and theme? It's important that the graphic enhances the client's work without confusing the customer.

One of the best principles to follow is "keep it simple." This reminds you to start with a simple design, which can always be expanded later. I often use generative graphic design and tools to help build concepts and generate ideas. These tools sometimes present ideas I hadn't considered. I keep an open mind and use a diverse set of tools, so I'm prepared to design whatever is needed.

When designing and starting with a simple design, I always consider whether adding more elements maintains a good user experience. I ask myself if these additions will help my client attract more customers or if they might confuse and turn them away. It's important to anticipate the impact on user experience. A great user experience includes getting feedback from the client and their customers, so I build in ways for them to communicate what they like and don't like. Always keep an open mind and keep the design simple, ensuring users can easily understand where to go, what to do, and how to interact.

In my design process, after starting with a simple design, I create a brainstorm folder and share it with my client in a meaningful way. This allows them to review and suggest any additions to the initial design. Meanwhile, I work on creating a medium and a more complex version of the design without the client's initial input. After receiving feedback on the simple design, I present the medium and complex versions to the client. Most of the time, the medium design gets immediate approval, so no further work is needed.
