You’re starting a new film project. What are the best resources to ensure its success?

The key resource for any film is to have a great script. Sound obvious. Don't bet on it. Look at most film and TV shows today. They are not great stories that seduce big audiences for a long time. Most people watch film and TV for the story. That means its characters, plot situation, world, and themes, etc. How is your story original? Does it have universal values? What is new about its plot situation, etc? Focus on these to make your story a standout. And it will.

Finding a producing partner who believes in the film as much as you do. Everything else is easy. Since I come from a production heavy background and I have worked on countless shows the nuts and bolts of film making is actually pretty easy. What I find most challenging is finding that producing partner, it's very rare and challenging in my experience.

1. Get the right crew together. People who are passionate and professional. Check their previous work. You'll find that your best resources are those you know best or have used before. 2. Have a script that is possible to do within budget and doesn't stink. This is your bible, your work page - stick to it! 3. Storyboards. A must if there are complicated/possibly expensive scenes. You'll thank yourself later! 4. Resources can change, disappear, and let you down. Always be ready with Plan B. People and businesses do not last forever.

That's a big question. After finding finance and a trusted producer the real key is to really find your story and develop it to itse most resonant and marketable level. Story is king. How good is your story/screenplay? Really? Have you had it vetted and assessed by a true story pro? All good scripts are edited scripts. All produced scripts are edited scripts. All good films come from edited and properly developed stories. Your audience most of all resonates with your story. Story is king.

People. People. People. Surround yourself with the right people, and everything will work out fine. A Team Player, that shows up On Time, and genuinely cares about Medium, and Enjoys being on set, is more useful than a Talented prima donna that sulks in their Trailer. Apparently, the story goes that on "The Monuments Men" (2014) lugging a sandbag here or there when necessary, to help out the Grips, wasn't beneath John Goodman - now that's my kind of person I want to work with.

1. That the budget realistically reflects what the demands are and can be accomplished in the timeframe. 2. The production and post team(s) have the resources available to take on the project with the desired results. 3. Make sure there is money set aside for aspects that were not planned for additionally to address these issues.

The most important factor to consider before starting any project is the script. All too often ppl seek a genre or niche, when they should write a story they know or have loved in some way.

Writer unique story concept for movie production. The presentation of the story by the writer makes a difference even if the same story concept was already presented by others. Only producers look for a great hook/ logline. If the hook is not good enough they don't consider the story to be good without even reading it but audiences first look for their favourite actor or actress. Then the director or the name of the production house. If they can find favourites from the above mentioned they will watch a movie.
