Absolutely! This is the first step of attempting to solve a problem which then becomes a project. Isolating issues will help identify the problem which most of the times aren’t superficial. Employ the use of root cause analysis and 5 Why’s to get to the root and general cause of pain point. Then we know what we’re up against and a scope can be defined and objectives pinpointed.

Data forms the backbone of any business analysis. Logical reasoning skills are vital for devising appropriate data collection methods and techniques. Analysts must be able to discern relevant data from the noise, assess its accuracy and reliability, and determine the most effective analytical approaches. This involves applying logical frameworks to organize and structure data, identify patterns and trends, and draw meaningful insights. Critical thinking skills play a significant role here in questioning assumptions, evaluating evidence, and avoiding biases that may skew the analysis.

In my experience, sometimes the data is not even there, it behooves on you to gather them together utilizing techniques like interviewing stakeholders, surveys, questionnaires and even observations depending on what the issue identified is. Gather these information and analyze using techniques like BPMN, activity diagramming, AS-IS process and Process flow mapping to identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies in processes. Analyzing collated information will help you know how to propose or model a solution for the problem.

Logical reasoning is indispensable in the process of solution generation and evaluation. Analysts must systematically brainstorm potential solutions, weighing their feasibility, effectiveness, and alignment with the business objectives. This requires the ability to think analytically, identify alternative courses of action, and anticipate potential outcomes. Comparative analysis involves applying logical frameworks to objectively assess the pros and cons of each solution, considering factors such as cost, risk, and impact on stakeholders.

Recommending solutions comes with critical and logical thinking of what’s a best deal for the company. After doing your elicitation and analysis, then comes solution recommendation, goes in with techniques like SWOT analysis and cost benefit analysis to cut the business a good deal.

Effective communication of findings and recommendations is essential for driving organizational change. Logical reasoning skills are pivotal in structuring coherent arguments, synthesizing complex information, and presenting insights in a clear and compelling manner. Analysts must be able to articulate the rationale behind their recommendations, drawing logical connections between the analysis conducted and the proposed course of action. This involves demonstrating the logical coherence of the recommendations, addressing potential counterarguments, and garnering buy-in from stakeholders through persuasive communication

To get stakeholders buy in for my solution recommendation for the business problem, I find that utilizing visual aids has been immensely helpful, as against using just some slide pages I build out a fully interactive prototype that addresses how the solution will work to solve the problem and demo it to stakeholders. 9/10 times I get their buy in and approval because the solution will speak louder than any argument.

Making use of visual aids like mock-ups, prototypes and wireframes is a game changer in getting stakeholders buy-in for solutions recommendations.
