I had the chance to start my Automotive engineering career in India way earlier while still being a student. If you're a student, participating in student events such as Formula Student gives you the platform to network to industry professionals directly. In most cases, they're happy to support if you're a young engineer entering the field. Usually the associations such as SAE or similar ones are the ones organising these student competitions. They also organise seminars, webinar, workshops and other events for professionals as well. Attending those events would also gives you access to more people in the network. For professional events and conferences, usually they have student discounts so you can join them without much expense.

Post daily, interact with people, spend at least half hour constructively on Linkedin, by asking great questions, learning about a technology or industry will always help.

I agree online presence is Vital in today's digital era, however be specific and Honest about the skill set area where as an intern you hv been worked upon. I am using word Honest here for those Young enthusiasts who are adding multiple skills on LinkedIn profile where in reality that inter never ever touched upon. E.g. A Mech. Engg virtual CAE CFD Analysis engineer adding 1D, 3D Fluid Flow, Transient Thermal, Thermofluid, Multphase, Co-Simulation is sufficient enough to mention on your profile, but Enthusiastically if intern adding SDV, Controls-Calibration, SIL, HIL, MIL will definitely make it hard to believe for six months to one year internship. It will unnecessary hamper your candidature for eligible position.

My recommendation is select a professional social media and be always active in that ..in order to be updated and upgraded. Because if you are active in Linkedin..your learnings will be comparatively more than the other people who are non-active ....
