In my experiene woking at the Euroleague I have seen many projects to gather data. Beyond the classic sports statistics, biometrics and other categories surrounding player's perfomance are of interest. IT will become a key factor to improve the game and to generate more fan engagement. Basketball has been always ahead of the sports industry in innovation and game analysis.

Seek one of the available data providers and choose it based on your needs, budget, data accuracy and your skills to process the data. Then you need to make sure that you make your own data consistent for a longer period to avoid misinterpretation. If you tend to change the data providers too often, you will get lots of data but it won't be comparable as very often they use different definitions and triggers.

In technology to gather data, it is important to know what data are you gathering and what are the best available resources- external you can utilize. We must as well decide if we will have our own materials and equipment to gather data. We must know for whom is data being served.
