If I am running a small business and needs to run an HR or manage HR. Then firstly I have to prepare the objectives, purposes and and achievable targets. Then I have to think my manpower planning and mapping, like how many people will be needed for this. Then step by step process will be followed.

I would look at my own capabilties first and enage in staff before engaging in software to do it for me. Walking about the office daily, to speak to everyone if very effective and creates an environment of an open door policy.

The cost is important but the return on investment should be the determining factor. Finding an HRIS software that can also provide you with tax benefit and incentive information can get you a return that far outweighs the cost of any system. For small businesses where the owner is wearing many hats I recommend the following determination structure: 1. Ease of use and scalability 2. Cost on a monthly / annual basis 3. Return on investment (either via time savings or tax incentive automation)

When my manpower planning and mapping is done, and business are really scalable and profitable then I need to focus on the automation process rather more human intervention. So according to that I have to decide how much I afford for the HR software and looking about the pros & cons.

After shortlisting some software, it needs to be checked whether is it developing further, how much user friendly it is? Customization, reliability, Backup support, user experience, future IT support and the backend development. All of those area I have to focus and select wisely.
