In any career, the path is wide and clear. Opportunities abound but to the untrained it becomes difficult to achieve. Why, you ask? Because there is really no blue print to success. You can only break it into pieces. Take it one step at a time. Know the essential skills needed for the job and constantly upgrade yourself to keep you abreast with new technology. Learn from others. Be hands on. Take every challenge as an opportunity to grow. They never get easy we just have to become tougher.

To navigate a successful career in the ever-evolving marine engineering landscape, it's essential to integrate cutting-edge technologies, maintain a deep understanding of marine engineering principles, safety procedures, and international shipping regulations. Up-skilling, reskilling, and staying current with evolving industry trends is crucial for remaining relevant and competitive. Changing an already set career and venturing to a new area is challenging,although present skill of project management and tackling various situations efficiently will be applicable at all levels and at any choice of career, for achievers its an obstacle till they practise and perfection it.

Resilience is a key factor in career change. You have to back yourself you can thrive in a new role which will require to navigate moments of self- doubt. One thing I would keep in mind is that if you change roles you have to change too. This goes for a change in company or a promotion within the same company. The new role will most likely require different skills and ways of working so don't try to do things exactly the way you did them before. It is ok to bring experience and perspective to a new role but if most of your working conversations involve "on my last ship" or "in my previous role" and these aren't just anecdotal you are only trying to replicate your previous work and stunting your growth & development.
