If you work in retail, I can surmise that you checked people out, I would be more impressed to hear that you interacted with an average of 20-30 customers per hour.

It′s very tempting to just blast your CV to thousands of job. but that’s the problem, you send thousands of applications, so do thousand′s. We have one of the highest employment rates for recent graduates in Colombia (a country with a high unemployment rate – preset to hard mode). Our secret: a well-directed networking between students and alumni. Every student who is going to graduate must build a spreadsheet with 30 companies. Through LinkedIn, find a key roles and an alumni and solicit a brief meeting. Not for opportunities, but for information. Knowing what a real value proposition could be, then the graduate builds a resume and a project to present to his/her new contacts.

Why do you think you are the right person for the role? Confirm the appointment. Know how to get there. Be on time. Even if it’s not in person, dress up. Turn your cell phone off before walking in. Nothing should be more important than concentrating on getting the job. If it is, then you probably should waste their time or yours.

LinkedIn, other employees, and a college career services office are great resources for this. I also suggest finding something in common with the interviewer. They are hopefully doing this as well so "lean into it!". Don't be afraid to have a conversation about a recent sporting event or the weather if it helps you both get more comfortable. An interview should, ideally, feel like a conversation. The more you practice and reflect on your past interviewing experiences, the easier this can be. But, don't forget that feeling nervous is natural!
