As a serious automotive person and student, I believe that you should look for contacts before you graduate. Other than that, you might find the path to be the most difficult one. In my opinion, one should pursue more internships because that is where it all starts, and since no one can predict the future, it is important to forge relationships with fellow students.

Engineering is a big scope. The most important thing is what product do you like. Then find the best company in the industry, hard working and try your best to communicate team member. When you see your product has been mass production in the market, and improve people's life, you can't feel more happy of self-achievement.

One thing I found helpful was to stay in touch with alumni from my university that went into different tiers of automotive engineering. Some went to OEM’s, others to suppliers. By staying in touch, we can clearly see how the development and the direction of the industry trickles down and affects each company in a wave like fashion. Joining professional associations is best, but staying close with your peers in the industry will also provide valuable insight.

But let's be clear: joining entities and just paying the annual fee does not improve your life in any way, adding just one more line to your CV. Take the opportunity to develop other skills.
