To get the basics of Quality Management i think it's neccessary to get certified. I don't think everyone needs to get all Advanced Level Certificates or showing an expert Certificate to be a excellent Test Engineer. But to get the core basics and the overall Understanding of Quality Management, especially as a new starter or career changer. Link yourself to other Quality Engineers and get their point of view in some things. You cannot beat experience but showing interest and motivation to learn and gain certificates is a good sign for you and your Management.

Never stop learning! This field is a constant evolution. Embrace new tools, explore different methodologies, and stay ahead of the curve. Remember, a curious QA is a powerful QA!

When trying to advance your career, like any other project, you should start out with a goal of what you want to achieve. Wanting to learn a new program versus become the Senior Vice President of software development require distinctly different types of training. Knowing this goal allows you to layout the classes and skills that are needed but also provide a timeline. Again, taking a few online classes compared to receiving your MBA have different completion timelines and need to be considered. In addition, based on the goals you are going after, education/training should not be limited to “hard skills” but should include “soft skills” as well.
