Even though you may not want to focus on these projects, they do give an interviewer a valuable idea on how you deal with challenges. Talk about what happened and how you tried to overcome the challenges, but most of all talk about what you learned from these projects: this demonstrates your growth.

Your ability to articulate design decisions to influence cross-functional partners would elevate your craft. And that is what the panel is looking for. It’s also essential to share what you learned from the projects you presented.

Showcasing your portfolio not only is important but you know that is your production, so usually is something that you care the most. For a recruiter, they need to understand the entire process of some of your works: "What's your best work?", "Why this was designed like this?" and some other questions might show up. If you did a project with a team, explain to them what you have done on it. Make it clear step-by-step of your process. Also, be ready for the recruiter to, sometimes, complain about your design choices. Remember that the recruiter is there to test and get to know you. You need to defend your ideas, so showcase your portfolio with your best works and the ones you understand the most. Feel secure about every design decision.

As you consider which parts of your portfolio to present, go back to the job description and closely study the skills and responsibilities for the role. Make sure the stories you choose to tell tie back to the job description. It's your job to help the interviewer see where your experience is comparable to the role.

If replacing an existing role, I would ask why the person left the company. What will happen after my first six months? Will there be an opportunity to grow and get promoted? How and when? How does success in my role look? What are your expectations about my role? What will be my biggest challenges?

I have a favourite question that I like to ask, which is, 'Can you walk me through a typical day for a UX designer on your team?' It's incredible how much you can learn with this one question! You can gain insight into their daily tasks, what they're responsible for, how they collaborate, the projects they work on, and sometimes even the tools they use. It helps you envision yourself in the role and evaluate your compatibility within the team and the organization.

During a UX interview it is important to keep asking open ended questions rather than leading questions. Also it is important to observe the user and analyze what he is saying vs what he is doing, this brings the behavioural aspects of the user.

One of my favorite questions to come up was "what is a good user flow you have seen recently?" Keep an eye out as you browse or shop, and start a bookmarks folder with examples for discussion.
