Make sure to prepare yourself according to the interview type, sell yourself, and prepare your stories to show how you'd be a great fit and add to the team. Make sure to smile, dress appropriately, and be flexible in your stories and in the situations, it's good to be open-minded.

I’ve seen multiple candidates fail at this when they share an errored POV on my audience, positioning or business model. Start your story right before you get eaten by the bear. Let me explain. A long-winded buildup takes too much time and often leaves your interviewer(s) tuning out. Instead, start your story in the thick of the issue. "There we were, 7 days into the most complicated project we'd ever worked on and the clients were not happy." Now I HAVE to know what you did to satisfy the clients! You've started your story with an attention-grabbing SITUATION. Now finish the STAR method. Your stories become infinitely more compelling when you trim the fat and just give your audience the meaty bits. Practice this beforehand so you can hook them at the start. In 2017, I was Skills Canada’s provincial gold champion for Ontario in job interview skills. Silly achievement, but those fake job interviews taught me a lot. In an interview, I opted to showcase my skills uniquely by creating a visually stunning presentation highlighting my experiences and achievements. After every opportunity or interview, you NEED to make sure you follow up with a thank-you note within 24 hours. This shows that you are actively thinking about the opportunity and if done correct,(i.e remembering something interesting that was discussed like university/college, favourite team, tv show, etc) can show your ability to think outside the box and be personable. No one likes to work with a robot (except AI, we love AI!) so adding some flavor will usually reflect positively!

Take a minute to briefly share with the recruiter/hiring manager the favorite thing you learned about the company/role in the interview.

When you follow up, drop in a specific nugget from your conversation. Even better, follow up with something actionable. "I saw/read this and immediately thought of our conversation about ___. I thought you'd enjoy it as much as I did." [Insert link to the video/article/etc.] Interviewers are people just like anyone. They want to know you were actively listening and are engaged/excited about the position and progressing further. Oftentimes it can be easier to show them this excitement, rather than simply telling them "thank you." Listen. Get creative. As a creative, I try to leave a lasting impression by adding personal creativity to my resume, follow-up, or thank-you notes. For example, instead of following up with just a written email saying thank you, I create a “Thank You” card using the company's branding for that extra razzle-dazzle. That extra effort is a great way to sneak in an additional example of my capabilities with a note that would be hard to forget.

Be the best version of yourself. And be honest. Honest about your plans, goals, past missions and what you can currenlty offer. Speak about why you are motivated and try to find a healthy balance between being humble but knowing your worth.

Three creative strategies you can use: 1) Use the STAR technique (Situation, Task, Action, Result) to tell your unique stories when answering questions. 2) SHOW how you can bring value to the company: Do a mini-project relevant to the position you applied for. The project to solve a problem. Showcase this and explain your thought process behind it on the day of the interview. 3) Be creative with the way you follow up: Give a summary of the conversation you had and the points that stood out to you. If certain pain points were implicitly mentioned by the interviewer, address these pain points by offering suggestions of how to solve them. This shows that you are a great listener and have multiple ideas. End off by thanking them.
