It's difficult to find time to feed our brain when we're overwhelmed with work and deadlines, but it's important to know that the more knowledge we have, the faster we can get our tasks done. There are many ways one can tackle this problem, one that I often find myself doing is to do the proper research on options I have, and if one happens to be an approach I want to learn, I try to learn it through practice and integrate it into my task if possible, this usually significantly speeds up my work in the future. Another solution could be listening to podcast, courses or videos during breaks and commute times. And of course dedicate your precious off-the-clock time to learn and do mini-projects.

Schedule learning time in my calendar and treat it as non-negotiable. Focus on one skill at a time, and apply new knowledge to current tasks to reinforce learning. This consistent, incremental approach will help me to stay up-to-date with industry developments.

1. Delegate/automate whatever tasks you can; 2. For the ones left, try to find ways to integrate these new skills in these tasks, so that you learn while doing; 3. Schedule learning blocks

Self-discipline is important. First, set goals and do not make unreasonable plans. Schedule management skills are required. Schedules should be made for an hour each day outside of work hours when you make time. The rest of the weekends and holidays need to be allocated to learning time. Podcasts and audiobooks are helpful. Also, viewing newsletters on your smart phone may be a good idea.

When overwhelmed with tasks in data science, I make time for skill development by setting clear, specific learning goals and focusing on one new skill at a time. I schedule regular, short learning blocks into my routine and take advantage of downtime, like breaks or commutes, to listen to podcasts or audiobooks on relevant topics. This helps me continue learning without disrupting my workflow.
