Drowning in melodies but losing the music? Share how you stay in tune with your passion amidst the chaos.

One thing that was crucial for my mental health and avoiding burnout as a voice trainer is trying best as possible to keep the balance between teaching ( = GIVING musical and artistic input out to students) and actively making music with other professionals e.g. doing concerts, studio work, songwriting/production (= RECEIVING musical and artistic input from colleagues).

As vocal coaches, we’re passionate about our work, but burnout can take a toll. To combat this, set clear boundaries with students to maintain balance. Prioritize self-care, whether through vocal warm-ups, mindfulness, or hobbies, to recharge. Diversify your teaching methods to keep lessons fresh and engaging, which helps prevent fatigue. Stay connected with other coaches to share experiences and reduce feelings of isolation. Lastly, manage your workload by setting a sustainable schedule, ensuring you’re fully present for each student. By doing so, we can maintain our passion and continue to support our students effectively.

I would say to start finding some side gigs or hobbies that allow you to practice music as an artist and not only as a teacher.

Hard to imagine somehow losing our lifelong love and passion for music, as well as our desire to share that with our audiences and voice students! We don't just make music. We live it and love it, feeling truly blessed to have made our living doing what we love AND continuing to share it with family, friends and fellow musicians even in our retirement! Love, Marc and Julie Emmick
