As a PM overseeing a complex healthcare project, strong leadership is crucial to guide the team and keep everyone aligned with our goals. Excellent communication skills are vital for coordinating with various stakeholders, from medical staff/IT experts. I must be highly organized to manage multiple tasks, deadlines, & resources effectively. A solid understanding of healthcare regulations & processes helps me navigate unique challenges of this field. I need to be adept at risk-management to anticipate & mitigate potential problems. Lastly, I must be skilled in change management to help staff adapt to new systems. By combining these skills, I can steer the project towards successful completion while ensuring it meets healthcare standards.

For project management, plan & schedule, do risk analysis & manage finances. Select capable leaders & team members, that can perform duties independently. Have a solid clinical knowledge. Be able to lead multidisciplinary teams. Address & resolve conflicts within the project teams. Analyze healthcare data to make informed decisions. Use available project management tools & apps to track progress. Guide teams through organizational changes. Last but not least...have business & communication contingency plans, especially in extreme environments.

Proactive risk map along with mitigation plan is key while managing complex projects specifically within tight timeline and business operation is at stake. Option analysis with Plan B, C with stress testing should be done. At the same time it is important to keep project team focused on the delivery and motivated by portraying & conveying the benefits of the outcome.

Communicate in Tech and Layman’s Terms: Being able to translate complex technical details into actionable steps is crucial. During a recent rollout, I broke down a complicated integration process into simple, clear steps for the staff. Clarity is key! It reduces onboarding time and minimizes errors.

Knowing regulations are one’s guardrails and prevent change and/or project project stoppages due to regulatory issues which can be time consuming, frustrating and costly causing loss of confidence by team.

I have a habit of actually experiencing the project for myself while going undetected. At Fe del Mundo Medical Center, I tested intrinsic values of both nurses, doctors, allied medical staff, janitors as an actual patient and I can confidently say, they all literally went above and beyond.
