You’re new to the team and don’t know anyone. How can you build a professional network in Team Building?

Building a professional network takes some TLC. Remember we’re all human beings that have an inherent need to connect with others. Make an effort to get to know others within the industry. Actively go outside of your comfort zone. Reach out to strangers, ask about their experiences. Seek their advice, and guidance. What’s the worst that could happen? Take a genuine interest in learning about other’s work, passions, & professional experiences. Listen, remember the little things. Genuinely encourage the efforts and achievements of others. Join local community & industry groups, attend events, and connect with likeminded individuals. Show your support. Partnerships matter. Imagine what we could accomplish together.

It's all about proactively creating opportunities for engagement and showcasing your genuine interest in your colleagues. From my own experience, the first step is to initiate introductions. Don't wait for others to come to you. Be proactive and schedule brief one-on-one meetings with team members to introduce yourself and learn about them. Another strategy is to participate actively in team meetings and discussions. Share your ideas and insights, but also be a good listener. Don't underestimate the power of informal interactions as well. Engage in small talk during breaks, join team lunches, or attend after-work gatherings if they're available. These informal settings often provide a more relaxed environment to build personal connections.

The things i have found helpful are start by introducing yourself with a smile, attend team events, be genuinely curious about others, and actively listen. Connect on shared interests and offer to help when possible. Building a professional network begins with authentic engagement.

Once you have introduced yourself. Get more curious about team members in a genuine way. - Get to know the team members, understand their mindset and contributions at work. - Talk about your skills but ensure you are sensitive to not rub people in the wrong way - While you have formal and informal ways to connect with team members. Stepping out to catch up on a break/ coffee time always helps connect quickly. - Ensure to stay warm so they can reciprocate the feeling - Do not take anything personal and get intimidated by anyone being reserved to connecting with you

You're new to a team. What you want to be is yourself. That's the first step in introducing yourself. This is quite important as your first impression counts. So just do the basics very well. Ensure that you display key attributes such as been confident, a good communicator, great listener and always pay attention to detail.

Finding common ground is really important to help a person understand another's character in greater depth. Simple things like fact finding i.e. Asking questions about what others do in their spare time, asking about interests, hobbies and much more can help to dig deep & learn something interesting. You never know; a simple conversation is all it takes to discover similar interests that may lead to a much better working relationship on a professional & personal level.

Common ground is established when people share personal stories to understand one another's value systems better and relate to personal experiences. It's the most immediate and impactful way of establishing meaningful connections.

Common ground has more to do with drive than with specific interests or experiences. You can relate to anyone if your drive is the same. If you both want to improve and grow and help the company to improve and grow, you can connect with anyone!

Finding common ground requires some vulnerability on your part. You have to be willing to share things. You can't expect people to open up to you if it's not reciprocal. It takes time to gain trust to share yourself with others so start with things that are less sensitive for you.

If you want to be a great addition to your team there are many ways that you can be seen to add value by simple little things. Firstly, if you offer to perform a good gesture i.e. helping a teammate with a difficult task; it's a goodwill gesture. However by choosing to help your colleague, you will be seen to have excellent attributes such as been an "Excellent Team Player". This will not be looked over and it will be noted. Being generous and helpful always displays professionalism and someone who is a great potential leader.

I frequently advise?the team, especially the less experienced members. They occasionally ask me for recommendations on interesting books on?a certain subject. These kinds of nuances are helpful because as individuals exchange knowledge, they also learn something they were unaware of, such as?how to develop trust among teammates. My slogan is "Ask?if you don't know" This implies that I'm always willing to help. Team members make use of it as well, since everyone is now trying to be helpful and this support has taken on a contagious quality.

Regardless of the newness of a relationship, providing value and being in service to others is destined to create immediate connection and build trust.

Seeking feedback from you're new colleagues is a fantastic way to keep a track on your growth and development. Don't wait for formal meetings such as appraisals. Why not get feedback from colleagues that you get on well with and trust so you can have the best feedback possible. Feedback at least once every month will help a great deal. This will be reflected in performance, behaviours and many other important areas of a persons character.

Seeking feedback is a sign that the person is open and willing to learn more about themselves and embrace humility as part of the growth process. How this person receives feedback is dependent on their self-awareness and mindset.

Humility is really hard, but when you see it in others you trust them and want to work with them. If you're seeking feedback you will find instant colleagues and mentors and people will want to be around you. It's really powerful!

The value of recognizing everyone's contribution cannot be overstated. Successful teams celebrate together, praise the contributions of all and support one another. The praise and recognition leads to subsequent successful endeavors for the team.

The ask is little be authentic, fearless and tread with consciousness. As time passes by people will understand your way of working and you too can have a good experience of how people work in different situations. Please do not indulge in gossip or any form of unprofessionalism because everybody around is still judging you. The important ask is you don't judge anyone you be open, be curious and be authentic and don't overdo to impress anyone.

Leading with curiosity demonstrates that an individual cares about getting to know another person and their well-being, especially in a new work environment. People are generally willing and eager to help others when they feel seen and heard; being curious is a great way to ensure this happens.
