One thing I have found helpful in developing leadership style early on is first Identifying my core values- as a human being- not as an employee or as a manager. After firmly defining your core values, enacting and upholding them on a daily basis will become easier, relieving you of sending mixed signals to your mentees, or behaving inauthentically. The more aligned you are with your own core values, the more gracefully you will allow yourself to fail-the only way to develop strong leadership skills.

Feedbacks by peers or by team help a lot to assess the leadership style of a leader ... different situations and contexts may warrant different types of leadership styles Self reflection on your dominant leadership style and the patterns of past communication and past work that you may have done as a leader also helps to understand your leadership style .

Taking some time to reflect on your strengths, weaknesses, values, and beliefs as a leader can go a long way in shaping who you want to show up as. Build relationships: Relationships are powerful. When we get to know others to serve them and help them progress, we earn their trust, respect, and guidance. You don’t have to go at it alone. Continuous learning: Leadership is not a destination but a constant improvement journey. Invest in developing yourself and keep up-leveling your game.

Your leadership style is inherently unique, shaped by your experiences, values, and beliefs. While there's always value in learning from established leaders, it's crucial to avoid simply imitating their styles. As a leadership coach, I often emphasize the importance of adaptability in leadership. Be very careful experimenting with people involved! Before experimenting or just following what someone else did, do your research. Leadership has some specific scientific theories from psychology, social and behavioral sciences, biology, etc., that all impact how leaders can influence others. Things like, socialization, cohesion, followership, fundamental attribution error, team decision-making, ethics, communication filters, and many more that all have specific ways of diagnosing and addressing each separately.

First and foremost....listen. Truly get to know your team. Once they know you care and that you have taken the time to learn their job and their perspective, you have built leadership collateral.

As a leadership coach, I often emphasize the value of diverse perspectives in this process. Be open to accepting feedback. Sometimes it is comming to you as criticism, take it as positive input for you to learn what went wrong. Retrospect and ask your colleagues and senior management for suggestions. Seek support from your seniors. And get experienced by working on your own self.

I agree- Listen! Go and watch to see how everybody works together as a team and individually. Ask questions, seek advice and then implement what you can. Make deposits of each person you lead- not work deposits but the personal deposits. Keep a journal and check in with the people you lead!

Reach out to organizations like the National Leaderology Association to learn what should happen. Get feedback on how you handle certain decisions and actions. Ask for advice on how you can handle things better.

Listen. Talk to your new team and find out what they feel is working or not. Then, talk to your peers and do the same- then the CFO - and only after that can you make a plan.

I agree, however I would add talking to a couple-three clients too. You need to introduce yourself to them, why not get their perspective. Also, be sure to speak with the owner, CEO, or leader to have a clear picture of the company or organization's goals, to enable you to direct your goal sets.

Critical self-reflection and continuous self improvement to evaluate what's going well, what isn't going as well as you would like and consider what you could have done differently to have achieved a positive outcome. Who you are a leader must model the way forward aka "walk the talk" and of course have self-awareness and also make sure empathy is a skill that is or becomes natural for you. As the late great Stephen Covey said "seek first to understand, then to be understood"!

Review your work. This is something which should be done periodically. This will give you great experience, how to restrospect and grow your managerial capabilities. Like if your goals are not getting matured, find the reasons. Break the goals and prove to your team that you are capable of introspecting the reasons and create steps towards achieving goals. This will get you more respect and make you better manager.

A new manager trying to “establish” their leadership style by immediately trying on each of the 397 “Leaderhip Style” hats to find the one that fits their authentic determined and confident head (sometimes confused by the team for stubborn and arrogant ?? ) is not the path forward. The goal is to be authentic. This begins with truly caring for the people and the mission. If you genuinely care, you will do what it takes to learn, grow, and mature so the team will be successful. Professor Herminia Ibarra explains there is an Authenticity Paradox and says “The only way we grow as leaders is by stretching the limits of who we are – doing new things that make us uncomfortable but teach us through direct experience who we want to become”.

When I coach newly promoted professionals, I provide them with a 3-step plan to develop or refine their leadership style for the new position. Step 1: Dive into personality assessments like DISC, Myers-Briggs, Enneagram, or StrengthsFinder to understand your temperament and how it shows up for you and others when you work. Step 2: Compare assessment results with the 8 common leadership styles to pinpoint your approach and note examples from the past. Step 3: Craft a brief leadership vision (1-2 paragraphs) highlighting your core beliefs, strengths, and motivational techniques. You will be sure to reiterate your leadership brand with new or existing colleagues before you start striving for success in your new role.

Hopefully, your leadership style was already displayed and appreciated, and that’s one of the reasons you were promoted to management, and not due to technical acuity in the absence of people skills. That being said, anything not authentic to your personality type will come across as contrived, so concentrate on how others want to be led and adopt The Platinum Rule. One leadership style may not be applicable for a large agency or a diverse team, so be flexible.

Zugleich hat es oft nichts mit den eigenen Qualit?ten zu tun. In dieser Phase das Selbstbewusstsein zu bewahren, und dem "Ankommen" Zeit zu geben, ist essenziell. Dabei sollte aber durchaus auf das Team geh?rt werden. Wünscht es sich evtl. ganz bestimmte Handlungen, Qualit?ten oder Werte? Kann ich da etwas ?ndern? Es ist übrigens in dieser Phase auch normal, dass sich Mitarbeitende (zeitweise) abwenden k?nnten. Oder sogar künden. Auch dies muss nichts mit den eigenen Führungsqualit?ten zusammenh?ngen. Sondern k?nnen schlichtweg die Symptome einer Ver?nderung sein.

As a Leadership Coach, the questions I ask are, What is the definition of a leader according to you? What about being a leader makes you happy? What about team development, where would you like to focus? How will you sustain being a leader one year from now? Dig into their Belief system, to ensure they remain authentic and real. Trigger back their thoughts to managing push back and stress. But then, A leader learns everyday in this journey!!!

The person you are is a major factor in the service you give. So, while trying to be authentic, be reflective of your actions and make adjustments and improvements each time. Consider the Golden Rule (treat others as you like to be treated) and the Platinum Rule (treat others as they want to be treated).

You will need to identify a default leadership style. Yet, what is more important you will collect an arsenal of styles to be utilized based on situational analysis. Your default style will be based on self-awareness, personal goals and experiences. A coach or mentor can assist in facilitating. Situational anaylsis and leadership styles are a collection of learned (education, observed, read, recommended) strategies that you believe are effective. To be an effective leader you must earn respect, which opens trust and allows the basic fundamental of leadership - INFLUENCE. Again, be mindful: default (self-awareness) leadership style and (learned) situational leadership styles.

Ex Rolls-Royce CEO Warren East once told in a meeting with Global Graduates from 2017 batch which I was part of in Derby that, "Everyone's journey and leadership style is different and don't try to imitate successful leader's style to be successful in life" to the question asked by one of our fellow graduate on "mantra for successful career". Each one of us have different style of leadership and one should be transparent with the team, be the torch bearer, show empathy when your team members are down emotionally and celebrate their success.

Be yourself and don’t try to imitate other leaders. Own the team and consider the team in your strategies. Don’t treat the individual team members as commodity.

Leadership is NOT a skill. It's an outcome. It's a combined result of your behaviors, practices, routines, and how you show up day after day
