Know Your Audience First! This step is crucial as it helps you determine the best way to communicate your ideas. It’s not feasible to clarify every concept for everyone, but focusing on your specific audience can make your communication more impactful and meaningful. "Speak their language."

The main goal is to increase public understanding and participation in urban planning processes. This approach aligns with the principles of "participatory planning,"where citizen involvement in urban decision-making is encouraged. Simplifying technical terms can help bridge the knowledge gap between experts and the general public. This can lead to increased transparency in urban planning processes and strengthen urban democracy. Additionally,this approach can help improve communication between various stakeholders in urban projects. However, it's important to note that oversimplification can lead to the loss of some important details. Therefore,finding the right balance between simplification and maintaining scientific accuracy is crucial.

Imagine that urban planning is like putting together a jigsaw puzzle with different actors who have divergent interests. Each piece, from shops to parks, has its specific place so that everything fits together perfectly. Why are some streets congested or lacking in green space? The answer lies in planning. Good design ensures that goods, services and productive activities are where they are needed. But who benefits and who harms? The key is to make planning not just for experts, but for ordinary people. We all have a say in how our environment is organised. By understanding this, you realise that it is not just about how things look; participating in the process gives you the power to create a better environment for society.

I remember in our office, for urban regeneration of a neighborhood, we put some effort to put relevant maps and photos on the walls. When people locate themselves or their plots on the map they feel more comfortable and can trust the reality and collaborate more efficiently.

“Find stories in everyday life.” Storytelling is a skill I continually practice as both a teacher and urban planner. It’s not just about the knowledge gained in urban planning; when you grasp the structure of a story, you can find narratives everywhere—in people’s walking patterns, movies, and everyday life. When you tell a story, you bring data to life, helping your audience understand and relate to urban challenges and successes. Tell compelling stories!

I have found that the key lies in making the abstract tangible. For instance, during a community workshop in the Sundarbans, where we discussed flood resilience strategies, the technical jargon initially caused confusion. I shifted gears by using a simple, relatable analogy: comparing flood barriers to "umbrellas" for the community, explaining how they protect homes just as umbrellas shield us from rain. This analogy clarified the concept and also helped us engage with the community. Storytelling is the key!

In my view the art of story telling is a game changer. The more we are articulated and to the point the better they can relate and collaborate.

Responding to the feedbacks and individual observations based on their needs and wishes builds trust and transparency. Therefore I should say that's a process which continues till the things the optimum results come up.
