Try not to focus too much on avoiding the conflict. Ideation is one of the most important step in product development. Hence establish the ground rules first. Where stakeholder, product owners, engineers are all on board to have an open dialogue. Before gathering feedback, make sure that all stakeholders are aligned on the product’s goals and priorities. Establish a clear decision-making framework with roles and responsibilities for each stakeholder. When feedback conflicts arise, transparently communicate trade-offs. Explain how certain choices might benefit the product’s core goals while others may add complexity or delay. Use data and insights to back your decisions, so stakeholders understand the rationale behind choices.

In product development, navigating stakeholder feedback is like balancing vision with reality—each perspective adds value but can also create tension. The key to preventing conflicts and ensuring success is building trust through clear, honest communication. When stakeholders feel heard and their insights are valued, it turns potential friction into collaboration. By framing feedback as an opportunity for co-creation, you move from managing competing interests to designing a product that reflects shared goals. Transparency, empathy, and setting clear priorities ensure alignment and keep the process forward-looking.

I have always believed in the compounding effect of being methodical in approaching a plan, create a vision, align goals, stakeholder alignment. Being methodical to me is being diplomatic. It helps carry the group with reason and passion. Always have a template and a plan. Align with the most powerful person in the room before hand to get a buy in so they help bailout your activity. Non cooperative stakeholders are either not interested in your plan or simply don’t understand it. In such cases listening is a key skill that can bail you out of the situation.
