Not trying to be mean but, frankly... IT. DOESN'T. MATTER!!! Get a mentor, get a coach, talk to a therapist...do what you need to do. But, it is not your team's problem and they should never need to know about it. Our role as leaders is to be the rock for our team. Our personal challenges need to remain just that: they are PERSONAL! The team has their own personal issues that we get to serve. We should not burden them with ours.

One thing I’ve learned through navigating personal challenges is ??the importance of creating leadership systems that operate even when I’m not at my best. Establishing clear processes and decision-making frameworks empowers my team to keep moving forward with minimal disruption. ??I also focus on emotional intelligence. ??Being transparent with my team, not about the details of my challenges, but about my need for flexibility— helps foster empathy and trust, while still maintaining professionalism. ??Finally, I rely on delegation. During difficult times, trusting key team members with more responsibility ensures continuity, while giving them opportunities to step up and develop their own leadership skills.

As a leader who's faced personal challenges, I understand the struggle to maintain consistency. During a family health crisis, I found strength in vulnerability. I shared my situation with my team, not for sympathy, but to foster understanding. This openness actually strengthened our bond and trust. I also established clear communication channels and delegated more, ensuring business continuity. Remember, consistency doesn't mean perfection; it's about staying true to your core values while adapting to circumstances. Your team will respect your authenticity more than a fa?ade of invulnerability.

You can maintain your leadership even when you are going through personal turmoil. To overcome this obstacle: Adopt flexibility: If necessary, be willing to modify your management approach. Communicate openly: Spread the word to promote understanding. Ask for help when needed: Never be afraid to ask mentors or trusted coworkers for help. How do you remain a consistent leader when things get hard? Talk about your tactics.

Leaning into our values is always important as leaders, especially when facing a challenging time. Going back to your core values and what grounds you can be the anchor we need during challenging times. Ask yourself what would it look like to lead during this personal challenge, while living into your values? Often that can be the answer that you need. Depending on the challenge you are facing, it can also be helpful to share with the team that you are navigating a challenging time. Whether you share that you are stressed or not, they are feeling likely picking up on it. Sharing that you are going through a difficult time can ease the anxiety that the team has that your stress is because of them. And remember to take care of you!
