In my experience, so many people miss golden opportunities to network with their targets by not preparing prior to a networking event. Especially in situations where there are lots of individuals. Do your research on who's attending, pick four or five target people that you absolutely want to connect with. Reach out on LinkedIn to start the relationship before the event Ask for introductions. And when you do connect – show them you have done your research - compliment them about a recent achievement or something they're interested in. Take interest in them ~ naturally the conversation will get back to you. But what they will remember is how you already knew about them before they ever even laid eyes on you. #Conversationsmatter

Be courageous, when in the room, be proactive and step up to someone who is by themself. Take a deep breath and do it. The reward will be so fulfilling. So have a great question prepared, or even a couple, like, 1.) what brought you here today or 2.) how has networking helped your business. Or you can always add , tell me more. I remember I had been invited to a large networking meeting, it was raining and chilly and dark outside, I arrived and just sat in my car, thinking of all the excuses to drive away. But I started to use positive affirmations and visualization to help give me the courage to stay and go inside, and what a big reward for me. Meeting new people that I could help and they could help me. The Power of Networking

If you haven't already arranged to meet other people, which is best, there are other ways to strike up a conversation with strangers. One very simple way is in the queue at the buffet. Simply prepare a few questions: ?? How did you like the speech? ?? What brought you to the conference today? ?? What has been the most important message for you so far? Many years ago, I got to know a recruiter from a major international company exactly this way who invited me to an assessment centre for an interesting position that was never advertised. That was certainly a lucky coincidence, but this positive experience encouraged me to actively approach strangers at events.

Walking into a networking event solo can feel overwhelming, especially when the crowd seems daunting. The first step to overcoming this is to adjust your mindset. Remind yourself that most people at networking events are also there to meet new connections and share their own experiences, meaning that others may feel just as anxious as you do. Instead of focusing on the size of the crowd or feeling out of place, shift your perspective to see the event as a series of opportunities to meet individuals one conversation at a time. This mindset reframes the event from an intimidating experience to a chance to build meaningful connections at your own pace.
