Donor relationships thrive on trust, necessitating a fine line between openness and discretion. Here's how to strike that balance:
- Disclose financials clearly, focusing on how funds are used rather than exhaustive details.
- Share successes and challenges, but keep strategic information in-house to maintain competitive edge.
- Regularly update donors with concise reports, ensuring they feel informed and valued without overwhelming them.
How do you manage transparency with your donors?

In my view, donors should be informed about “where, with what purpose” the funds will be used and the expected impact. Regular updates should be provided to donors, including success stories that highlight the outcomes. A general overview of “how” the funds will be allocated may be shared, and with more specific details available on request for high-value donors only.
