How do you merge different SEO perspectives in your team?

I often navigate different SEO opinions in my team. To unite us, I encourage open discussions and focus on our common goals, like boosting traffic. Data helps us back up our ideas, and when needed, I bring in outside experts for fresh insights. Experimenting with different strategies shows us what works. I also pair team members with differing views to foster collaboration. Regular check-ins keep us aligned, and I document our decisions to maintain accountability. By prioritizing teamwork and data, we create effective SEO strategies together.
-
Focus on the Shared Goal: Team Alignment: Remind everyone that the ultimate goal is to improve the website's organic performance and achieve business objectives. Celebrate Successes: Acknowledge and celebrate team wins to boost morale and reinforce collaborative efforts.
-
The SEO product leader should document the strategy and walk through that strategy with the team to get questions and ensure alignment.

I would argue for a multi-perspectival SEO consensus based understanding and strategy. Saying, “oh well I do my SEO based on data” is a moot point. We should assume everyone is looking at the data. However, insights gleaned from the data can be different. It is safe to say, there is truth in everything someone says. Taking into consideration everything will help lead to the best decision for the company. One person might say, “Well SEO matters PPC purposes” or “SEO is about organic search”, “We need to optimizer for conversational search”, “SEO is now linked to search generative experience.” So, which one is true. Simply put, THEY ALL ARE PART OF THE GRAND PUZZLE THAT IS SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION.
-
Navigating conflicting SEO opinions within your team requires fostering open communication and collaboration. Start by facilitating a discussion where each team member can present their views, backed by data and case studies. Encourage a culture of respect and constructive criticism, emphasizing shared goals. Establish clear SEO objectives and metrics to align efforts. Consider conducting A/B tests to evaluate differing strategies empirically. By blending diverse insights and validating approaches through data, you can create a unified, effective SEO strategy that leverages the team’s collective expertise.
