Ensuring effective volunteer training is key to a successful event. Tailor sessions to fit the event’s needs and roles, using hands-on practice, clear guidelines, and real-time feedback to build confidence. Make training fun, interactive, and accessible, offering ongoing support through check-ins and open communication. Lead by example, foster teamwork, and recognize volunteers' contributions to keep them motivated. A well-trained and confident volunteer team will ensure smooth operations and a positive event experience for everyone involved.

Keep in mind that everyone learns differently! Strive to deliver content in a variety of formats that delivers information across modalities (auditory, visual, tactile. etc.). Keep in mind that on-site or just-in-time training will work for some but can be difficult for volunteers who are hearing impaired, have reduced vision or those who experience sensory overload. Providing written training materials/orientations can create a more welcoming environment and can reinforce information shared during in person training activities.
