To ensure quality trumps quantity in data collection, set clear goals that focus on what truly matters. Make it clear what will feed actionable insights and what sort of data points to collect, because you'll be gathering so much information that it will be hard to avoid gathering irrelevant information. Provide training to the team on making sure that the data is accurate than volume. Maintain standards by use of quality checks at every stage. One of the times I planned and prioritized targeted data collection for a project, limiting useless data inputs and focusing on the biggest tickers. The approach that we are taking avoids overwhelming the analysis with irrelevant data and leads to better decision making.

Instead, one should probe thoroughly, ask both open-ended and closed-ended questions, and follow up as needed.
