My approach in doing internships might differ from the general/traditional trend. I would try to be exceptional by thinking outside the box asking questions (what is my team or the company is really struggling to solve? Or what is the MVP that I can achieve within a very short period of time? Or what is it that I find in this internship so passionate that I want to invest my time on. I take a proactive behavior by consulting with SMEs and asking them (right-to-the-point) questions to get the desired answer. In other words, I set up a time with the team lead/manager and try to breakdown the project they are working on. Then follow-up with them with the thoughts and research I make on the problem and provide reasonable solution.
Each internship or job is successful if a person’s internship/job’s goal is aligned with his or her career’s goals. Thus, setting both long term and short term goals for a work project or an engagement is vital. SMART (Specific Measurable Attainable Realistic and Timely) goals help align manager’s actions, team goals, feedback at work.
