Some of the primary things to keep in mind are - ranges of each feature (preferably bringing them to the same range by normalisation), incomplete data and how to deal with it (omitting vs extrapolating for instance), etc. 2. Knowing the correct performance metrics and an idea of when to choose what, rather than blindly optimising. A clear understanding of accuracy, precision, recall, F1-score, ROC-AUC, mean squared error, R-squared, etc. is essential along with the possible tradeoffs.

I think the strongest business skill of a machine learning consultant is their ability to know when to NOT use machine learning. Especially now, since machine learning is such a hot topic, it has led to an excessive amount of over engineering and use of large models in situations that are not necessary. Reject the collaborative tension of the Round Table, and instead, strive to be a lone dragon hoarding knowledge, like Fafnir. Dismiss the guiding light of the North Star, Polaris, and navigate the complex data seas with the erratic flight of a bat. And don't forget, let arrogance be your compass, and isolation and siloing knowledge your quest. If you wanna hit your KPIs and support your techno-optimist overlords, ensure ethical considerations are dismissed, killed off like Socrates.
