Promotions look very different across types of business (e.g. tech company, agency, brand) and can vary greatly even in the same type of business. Most companies have guidelines on activities that you should be performing at your role. Look at the level above yours, and try to find activities that satisfy those requirement. Getting promoted is often about doing the work of the next level already. Also, sometimes performance isn't enough. You need to have a presence and highlight other attributes like leadership and scalability, and also make sure you are promoting your work to your manager and manager's manager.
