Continuous learning is very much important for a good career growth as there is always an advancement in technology and so to cope with the new environment it is important to learn the new tools and technologies. I have so much good professors in Emotional Intelligence, I am really blessed! I highlight Mr. Brackett, who wrote "Permission to Feel: Unlocking the Power of Emotions" - I strong recommend the reading if you are struggling to advance your career and wish an emotional breakthrough. EI is the key of success for leadership and for your entire life. As a mentor, I like to say to my mentees that by mastering Emotional Intelligence they can continue to advance in their career and life organization aswell. I am the lighthouse that have the expertise to guide and accelerate their awareness about self-knowledge of themselves and about their soft skills. EI matters because mentoring matters. We are together in the journey!

2 How to assess your EI

Before you can improve your EI, you need to know where you stand. There are different ways to measure your EI, such as self-assessments, feedback, and tests. Self-assessments are useful to reflect on your strengths and weaknesses, but they can also be biased or inaccurate. Feedback from others can give you a more objective and realistic perspective, but it can also be hard to receive or act on. Tests are more reliable and valid, but they can also be costly or time-consuming. The best approach is to use a combination of methods, and to seek feedback from diverse sources, such as your boss, peers, mentees, and customers.

3 How to develop your EI

Once you have a clear picture of your EI level, you can start working on improving it. There are four main components of EI: self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and relationship management. To enhance each one, practice mindfulness, journaling, or meditation to improve self-awareness. Use coping strategies, such as breathing, positive affirmations, or reframing to improve self-management. To improve social awareness, listen actively, observe body language, and ask open-ended questions. Show curiosity, respect, and appreciation for others' perspectives and experiences. To improve relationship management, use assertive language and avoid blaming or criticizing. Give and receive feedback with honesty, kindness, and specificity.

4 How to apply your EI

Improving your EI is not enough; you must also use it in various situations and contexts, and adapt it to different people and cultures. For instance, as a leader, you can employ your EI to set a vision, align your team, and delegate tasks. You can also motivate, recognize, and reward team members with your EI, as well as create a positive work atmosphere. Additionally, you can use your EI as a communicator to tailor your message to the audience, convey your ideas effectively, listen actively, ask questions, and provide feedback. As a mentor, you can use your EI to build rapport and trust with your mentee, understand their goals and challenges, and provide guidance and support. Moreover, you can empower them to grow and succeed with your EI.

5 How to keep learning

Emotional intelligence is not a fixed trait or a one-time skill, but rather a lifelong journey that requires continuous learning and practice. To keep improving your EI, seek feedback from different sources, such as your boss, peers, mentees, and customers. Learn from others who have high EI or who have different EI styles or backgrounds than you. Additionally, seek opportunities that push you out of your comfort zone or expose you to new people or cultures so you can practice and apply your EI. With these steps, you can identify your strengths and areas for improvement, monitor your progress and impact, and develop new EI skills and perspectives.

When seeking ways to advance your career, make sure to properly demonstrate within and outside your organizations what you have accomplished and your role as a high-performer. Do this in a manner which engages others. If you are part of a team, be sure to give credit to yourself and your team members. Reflect on your roles as a leader, follower and how you exude executive presence. Also don't forget like-ability. People want to work with others who they like and can respect.
