For me, a helpful way to think about establishing a vision is to liken it to a road map. In meetings, I will share an agenda (or graphic) that clearly demonstrates the end (yes, I did mean to put that first!), the beginning, and everything in between. That way, people might not necessarily agree with the plan, but they cannot claim ignorance of it. Also, where possible, soliciting and implementing feedback helps foster feelings of ownership, which go a long way in communicating the vision in a way that resonates with every team member.
