The impact of a university occurs by generating knowledge, preparing competent citizens and, with both, benefiting society. So: work on culture; engage everyone; ensure the generation of state-of-the-art knowledge in strategic areas for the country/region; guarantee excellent education, with modern teaching-learning; embrace top technologies (educational and solution-enabling). Involving and recognizing the student and professor will delight and engage. And remember: as a sustainability model, is a strong H1 horizon that nourishes H2/H3 horizons of innovation, longevity and impact of the entity.

In my experience, to drive innovation in Higher Education, visionary leadership is crucial. One essential skill is fostering a growth mindset among faculty and staff. This involves encouraging openness to new ideas, embracing change, and continuous learning. A leader must inspire a culture where innovation is valued and seen as a pathway to enhancing educational outcomes. By championing forward-thinking strategies and creating an environment that rewards creativity, a visionary leader can break down resistance to change and align the institution’s goals with the evolving needs of students and society. Empowering others to see the potential in new approaches is key to sustaining meaningful transformation.

Visionary thinking is one of the skills that leaders in higher ed must have to positively impact their communities. We're often faced with faculty and staff who might be resistant to change or new ways of doing things. As a visionary thinker and leader, if we're able to allow those who are doubtful to have a peak at the window of the potential positive transformation ahead, we might gain support.

Universities need to plan different scenarios and possible future situations and possibilities, ensuring that the university’s strategy is adaptable and forward-looking. I believe one of the most neglected aspects by some innovation professionals is the need to be not just a technologist but also someone who understands people. Managing the emotions involved in the change process is crucial for delivering real change. Many change processes fail because there wasn't adequate management of the people involved and their feelings and emotions. By paying attention to this aspect, the chances of success increase substantially.

For higher education to innovate, we need transformative courage and powerful communication. Without it, innovation will suffer. Here's why.... ???? For centuries, higher education has been top-down. — We know the truth. — We know the way — We have the answers Students must listen, learn, and show us that they've met our standard. VUCA environment, as the term has become famous for Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous. In this scenario, design processes are gaining increasing importance, emphasizing user-centered feedback, improvement throughout the process, and understanding errors as a key component of this improvement. More than just a methodology, Design is a mindset so ingrained that it permeates all aspects of life for those who choose to embrace this approach.
