All of the things discussed above are important, but some things that were not mentioned that I feel are equally important are: 1) take time to understand the task, the work required to complete it, and the time schedules. This will ensure that you are focusing your efforts on the most critical items and keep you from wandering into a time killer. 2) Use technology to organize but use it wisely. I've seen many very bright young engineers drag out any number of technological organizational tools, all with great potential to be very helpful, but they had no idea on how to use those tools to help them achieve their assignment. As such, the care and feeding of the technology became an assignment in and of itself. Don't fall into that trap.
