Following the interview, send a thank you email to the interviewer where you re-cap the 3 main points you addressed in relation to the role (and many any others that you didn't have on-hand, but promised to provide). I also like to include 3-5 work samples with that thank you email to stand out vs others.

It can be easy to get off topic, go on a tangent, and then forget what the point of the question was, so taking care to have solid talking points ahead of time is important.

For me, it's the candidate's energy and the flow of our conversation. When a candidate is positive, our chat is balanced (some candidates don't let me speak much and others reply with 1-3 words) and the meeting feels like talking to an old friend, THAT leaves long-lasting impression, even if the candidate is not suitable for the role or the role is not suitable for them.
