You're in a job interview and asked about your strengths and weaknesses. How do you respond?

My biggest strength is that I know what my weaknesses are, I know where my development needs lie. I do a lot of self-reflection. I’m very honest with myself, and with those I’m in a mutual trust and respect kind of professional relationship with. My biggest weakness is that I’m too transparent, too open about my weaknesses and sometimes to the wrong audience. This has at times bit me on the bum. However, I have learned from that and I now endeavour to only talk about my weaknesses with people I trust to want to help me develop, help me get better, progress, move forward, rather than freely reveal my shortcomings to anyone, people I have only just met, people who haven’t shown me that they see my worth, and appreciate my strengths. ??????

If asked about your weaknesses in an interview situation, I would recommend sharing how you have overcome or dealt with them in the past.

For relevance, one might also mention "adaptability to rapid technology changes or uncertain futures" as an area where you are still learning how to respond to disruptions in an educational landscape.

When listing your weaknesses, it is essential to demonstrate how you have been and are continuing to work on those weaknesses. You should share specific examples/projects/interactions and what you learned from those experiences. No worthwhile organization expects you to be perfect. This is an opportunity for you to demonstrate genuineness, self-awareness, and the ability to take critical feedback and use it for professional growth.

Speak your responses aloud so that you hear the words coming out of your mouth. Things often sound different when they solely live in our heads, and there is a huge difference between thinking “I would say…” and actually saying the thing. It might take a few tries to find the right words, or you might realize you need a different response altogether. Practice with someone who will actually give you constructive feedback. Friends and family are often *not* good at doing thjs. Record yourself delivering the response and then watch the video. Notice your body language, cadence, tone, etc.
