When explaining the CIA triad in the context of cybersecurity, think of it like two friends planning a business deal. **Confidentiality** means the business idea they discuss should stay private between them. **Integrity** ensures that the details of their deal aren’t changed or tampered with by anyone else. Finally, **Availability** means they can access their conversation and plans whenever needed, without interruptions. The same principles guide how we protect information in cybersecurity—keeping it private, accurate, and accessible.

Start by explaining key cybersecurity principles such as confidentiality, integrity, and availability (the CIA triad). Mention how these form the foundation of security protocols. Discuss the importance of firewalls, encryption, and network monitoring in securing internet services. Highlight the role of VPNs in protecting data in transit. Demonstrating a grasp of these basics will show your solid understanding of security concepts.

Compare the security of an organization with security at home. Many of the best practices in the industry are already implemented at home. Head of the family is the head of access control, at home access to cash, jewels are restricted to adults - these are restricted and challenged to toddlers. We have document classification at home, our certificates are "Public" category whereas our mark-sheets are "Confidential" category! :-) Threat to assets like Gold and paper documents are different, risk treatment is different for them. You may draw parallel citing such examples, users will certainly enjoy and understand security principles in this way

I believe that the three pillars of the CIA triad—Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability—complement each other; if one of these pillars is compromised, the other two will also lose their balance. For instance, if data confidentiality is breached, it can lead to integrity issues as unauthorized users may alter the information. Similarly, if availability is compromised, the ability to maintain confidentiality and integrity becomes irrelevant, as users cannot access the data when needed.

I explain protocols and ports like an airport, where each gate represents a service with a specific number. SSL and TLS act like security checkpoints, ensuring the connection between the user and server is safe. The firewall works like airport security, controlling who can enter or leave, blocking any unauthorized access. Together, these systems protect the network from threats.

Memorize some of the very commonly used ports like 80, 443, and protocols like ICMP, FTP, SFTP, NTP, DHCP, SMTP and SNMP. While answering questions quote the port numbers and protocol names that will give a feeling to the interviewer that you have practical experience.

SSL/TLS can be compared to a handshake between two people in a business meeting, ensuring their conversation (data) is private and secure. While answering a question related to PCI, you should state about the latest version, viz., 4.0. Between versions, sometimes the changes will be very huge. Knowledge about outdated version will clearly say that you are outdated and most importantly it may give a message that you do not care about changes
