You’re having trouble managing your team. How can you improve your skills?

A leader must value his team and have a deep knowledge of himself and each of his collaborators: their strengths as well as their weaknesses. This is the only way to empathize with the emotions that arise in the various professional roles and to manage complex situations in order to prevent them from undermining trust or deteriorating the work environment. A good leader with a vocation for service will be able to keep his team productive and happy.

It's crucial to focus on enhancing emotional intelligence and adaptability, while continuing to build trust-based relationships. Always maintain a strategic vision for the business, remembering that people come first and constantly cultivating resilience. In today's environment, it's also beneficial to integrate technology and agile methodologies. Tools such as Jira, Trello, Monday.com, and Scrum frameworks can be highly effective. Emphasizing these areas can further refine your approach to team management, ensuring a more dynamic, responsive, and cohesive team.

As a manager, it is crucial to put yourself in your teams shoes. Allow yourself to reflect on your previous managers and analyze their management styles. What actions did your best manager take? How did these actions make you feel? What were the skills they demonstrated to unite the team? Next, look at the qualities and methods your least favorite had, how did their methods make you feel, and why? Did their management produce successful teams? Really take time to write down styles, feelings, and look at it from a managers standpoint and a team players point of view. This can act as a guild for you and inspire new management methods to try.

Communication is the most important part in our life & irrespective of any situation and profession. A strong communication skills set has to have in a team leader which will ultimately provide a clear picture of your expectations from your team which will ultimately lead you to your goals.

There can be no more important job for a team leader than to communication both up and down the chain of command. The more people on both sides of you who understand what is going on--good and bad--the more they will make the better choices.

Communication is key. Being clear, consistent, and transparent to the entire team is very important. There is a line between treating them as the individuals they are and keeping them in alignment with team goals and needs. I keep very open communication with my team, some need more time than others, depending on skill level and maturity. At the same time they also have grown trust with each other to lean into the skills that other members may have more experience with. My training team of 4 is spread across the US and has truly embraced what a team is. They are masterful communicators with one other and all stake holders.

In my experience, communication is essential but must be effective to yield appropriate responses and feedback. In addition to the listed responsibilities of a manager, I make it a point of duty to recognize each person’s belief, religion, ethnicity, place of origin, culture and personality. These have been of great help in deciding the best approach for effective communication with team members. Example: Having the idea about the “differences” (religion, beliefs, ethnicity, culture, etc) of five team members enable me effectively communicate with everyone of them at the same time, using properly-arranged choice of words. It also makes it easy for me to flow along with their emotional understanding as we communicate.

Really effective communication is the best way for success, without communication you cannot get your targets, goals and vision. Also you neither evaluate your employees,daily activities ,nor reflect them to higher levels.

The key is not just to delegate, but to challenge your team members to do more than they have ever done before. It is true if they are just out of college and have never lead a meeting or an old hand who has never created an annual projection for senior management before.

Delegation and empowering my team really drives their success and gives them a stake in their performance. If you hire the correct people, you really don’t have to manage them but help guide their path to growth. Also understanding their goals truly shows you are invested in them and then you have a clear vision on the activities they deem important to career advancement.

In my experience, delegated employees require encouragement for their development like: 1. Self-sponsored training and programs reimbursement(s). 2. Organization-sponsored specialization training/program that fits employees role in delegation. 3. Recognitions for contributions made. 4. Reassurance to enhance encouragement. 5. Delegating tasks and responsibilities without consideration for the 1 to 4 points above usually lead to low self esteem overtime.

I love to recognize my team whenever possible. If they do something amazing, I immediately pass it up the chain. We also have a company High5 channel where different sales personnel can give anyone in the company a high-5 for exceptional support or performance. It allows even our CEO to see the comments and throw in a few words of thanks for a job well done. Having senior management compliments really makes them feel valued and drives their performance.

In every meeting you participate and every report you right--with few exceptions--if you aren't pointing out the good work done by your team members, then what you are doing. Besides reporting up, it is import to report how important management considers the work your team is doing and how your team is an important company resource.

In my experience, the most specific, sincere recognition and reward is to make it possible for the employees (usually few in number) who desire to improve professionally and personally. Appreciating and acknowledging team members, specifically, sincerely and on time is a necessity. Within the team, is usually a team member with the additional outstanding efforts (self-sponsored training/program(s)), that deserves to be encouraged.

So many times the most important step is to recognize that there is a conflict. Once you recognize it, team members will step forward to help resolve it. Bring the problem up with everyone involved, individually, and ask them if they think they can find a way to help resolve it, with the understanding that you will resolve it if you have to, but they make not like what you decide.

Being honest with yourself as a leader is a good place to start. Having the awareness you may be the reason for a conflict and then also reflecting on why that is. That at least addresses a core reason for a conflict and then having the insight to take steps to resolve that means then you face the conflict head on and hopefully open up a dialogue with the individual/team members. Accepting there is some responsibility on your part is never a bad thing!

One thing I found helpful was that providing a compassionate listening ear resolves the hurt and angst that team members feel and 40% of problems get resolved. For the rest 60% your intent to resolution and providing a sense of belonging or involvement brings in motivation along with satisfaction.

In my experience, the solution to resolving conflicts and problems involve a timely and prompt approach based on a “background” of: 1. Not encouraging sycophancy 2. Not being sentimental 3. Not entertaining backstabbing 4. Not entertaining nor encouraging gossips and rumors 5. Being Objective 6. Operating within organizational goals and limits of practices 7. Aiming for a win-win 8. Re-echoing and reminding everyone of the organizational goals, operational and procedural policies that guide our practices Importantly I walk-the-talk

Firstly you need to identify the contributory factors to the cause of the problems. Often animosity at workplace is the results of lack of leadership traits, nepotism, favoritism and injustice at all spheres. The best way to improve your skills is to apply a culture of role modelling. Know your team strengths and weaknesses, introduce training sessions based on the service limitations to promote quality in service development and improvement. Do not promote discrimination among your employees to improve a therapeutic work environment, good team work and subsequently great productivity and sustainability of you your team. All the best.

Consider investing in emotional intelligence training of some kind. Leading people is hard. Holding people accountable is hard. Inspiring people to perform is hard. These things take skills, and emotional intelligence training can help make you more effective and confident.

Here,during my job as Pharmaceutical sector manager; I focused more at on the job training, we used spare time 3 days a week to review and discuss new topics. Every two members should prepare a topic at one of interest to present at a specific time and so on, that creates a sprit of competition,joy and desire to show the best of us,regardless who can win.

Foster strong relationships with your team members by showing genuine interest in their well-being, providing support, and recognizing their achievements. This will create a positive and collaborative work environment.

My way would be Lead by example: Demonstrate the behaviors and values you expect from your team members. Be the person or direction you want to see in others. Be approachable, fair, and transparent in your decision-making processes. Sometimes doing it serves to be better than asking for it to be done within the team

When all else fails, go back to the basics: 1) communicate, define and set alignment goals 2) understand goals, both short and long term, for each team member. What is import to each individual for growth. Remember the most important part of communication is listening to the needs of others 3) return to step 1, how do individual goals match up with team or corporate goals. Now that you listened, repeat their needs to verify what you heard, communicate your plan of action 4) verify understanding, redirect or course correct as needed Simply put Ask, Listen, Validate, Verify

In my experience as leader, I think the most factors made my success is to be on of the team,your employees find you whenever and wherever they need. Listen carefully, talk friendly and join their activities and favorites other than business.
