5 keys to prime yourself for a keynote onsite when nervous: 1: Reframe the nervousness into positive energy. It's a good thing to be nervous because that means it matters 2: Add to your confidence by arriving early - to be familiar with the room set up & ensure AV is working smoothly 3: Rehearse your opening - with a strong opening, if you're well prepared the rest will flow well 4: Take the pressure off yourself - a great presentation is more about the audience than it is about you. With a mindset of providing a service of value, you're not worried about what people are thinking about you 5: Breathe - 2 quick breaths in through your nose & 1 long out through your mouth, a few times in a row, is proven to calm nerves You've got this!

My calm comes from the preparation. If my slide desk is ready, the duration is correct, and I know the material, all is good….no matter the crowd size or venue.

I remind myself this is not about me. It’s about them. I could go on and on but the bottom line is to be of service to the audience you serve

TWO little tricks: 1. Step onto the stage and stand behind the podium before you start speaking for the 1st time. 2. Have a member of your team call-out (or even heckle) you before you start your formal speech. Gives you a little distraction and a laugh before you launch into formal speech.

Whenever possible, I try to Google the venue to familiarise myself with the space or arrive early to see it in person. This way, I'm not stepping into an unfamiliar environment. I always pack my laptop, along with a speaker kit of cables for every situation, ensuring I’m prepared for anything. I have also created a personally curated "speaking" playlist that gets me inspired and in the right mood to serve and uplift my audience before stepping on stage. Additionally, I consider my clothing carefully. Bright lights and nerves can make you sweat, so I avoid light blue or grey, as they tend to show underarm sweat. Dressing comfortably and appropriately helps boost my confidence as well.
