I am actually going to provide a perspective that validates the importance of online learning, professional development through workshops, certificates, and short courses. As a program director, I had the privilege to introduce all these learning experiences in the MS Biotechnology program at the University. There are two types of online education that are worth separating from each other. It can be synchronous or asynchronous. In spite of the fact that asynchronous learning is convenient for your schedule, it does not give you the option to interact with other people since there are no live classes. In most cases, this type of online education is very useful for learning the facts about a particular subject. You should allow for deep and in-time interaction with other people if you intend to learn any type of practice or to improve your leadership skills through online education.

I recently enrolled in an online course for educators, and it has been a fantastic experience! The flexibility it offers allows me to balance my professional development with my existing commitments seamlessly. The most important factor is time management. Try to manage time with your skills to be developed because at a point in time things become boring, and being academic, you have to be updated before your student gets updated. Do get into that content which you and your mind like to read in free time Enjoy doing the work in installments but not piling up all the things together. Be updated with the trend of whichever field you are in

Many national and international educational networks strive to provide free online webinars and workshops on a variety of topics, usually the newest educational trends, or any policy updates. Also, some subject specific corporations, such as National Science Foundation, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, among many others, also provide opportunities of annual conferences where educators meet for several days and participate in diverse activities tailored to share best and newest practices on the field.

This is a wonderful time to Network and exchange ideas with colleagues from other horizons. It's also a time of refreshing whereby you are able to experience a 'handshake' in your area of specialization. Some experts call it 'Give and Take' session. It affords you the opportunity to reset your 'brain' for a stronger start in the new school session.

Professional workshops offer direct exposure to the latest teaching strategies. ? In-person events foster valuable networking opportunities with fellow educators. ? Engaging with peers sparks fresh ideas and innovative approaches. ? Real-time discussions help integrate new trends quickly into practice. ? Wisdom lies in collaboration—shared experiences often lead to practical solutions.

Keep moving dynamically. Sometimes you leave behind and sometimes you lead. Someday you learn and some other day you educate new things.

Some of the best ways to tap into educational trends include: 1) Tapping into your own network and identifying those colleagues who are front running at conferences, involved with professional organizations, and are readers! 2) Develop your own PLN (professional learning network) by meeting others at conferences and professional development opportunities. Engage them afterwards by following them on social media and through virtual meet ups. 3) Join a professional organization and subscribe to their periodicals. What’s on the “front page” of their periodicals and newsletters? 4) Leverage social media as a tool for identifying the leaders, thinkers, and doers and learn what’s guiding them.

People learn much and be able internalise what is learnt through peer collaboration. In peer collaboration, cost of learning is low and much effective way of learning.

Co teaching a class is a very effective way to collaborate, share and explore new ideas and strategies for sharing information. Also co teaching serves as a model for students learning how to work as effective teams. I co taught several classes with another professor and our collaboration was fun, creative and helped both of us become better communicators.

Peer collaboration is a powerful yet underutilized tool for professional growth. ? Sharing experiences and trends with colleagues enriches classroom practices. ? Informal discussions, study groups, or co-teaching offer valuable learning opportunities. ? Learning from peers blends practical experience with fresh perspectives. ? In my experience, peer-led initiatives often lead to immediate, impactful change.

If you’ve got the opportunity and funding, this is really the one-stop way to “cram” updating your understanding of changes/trends and dramatically build your network (if you interact and engage appropriately). And really the presenters and workshop coordinators are typically open to future collaboration, so who knows what a solid in-person conference experience could do for launching you ahead in your professional growth. Nothing else is going to quite compare… second option really is to find folks who are doing research in your field and find ways to partner - in the process you’re going to be more than caught up: you’ll be on the cutting edge.

Una estrategia muy útil y sencilla para los docentes es la siguiente. Elige un tema del cual sepas poco, pero hayas oído o leído en medio educativos, recientemente. Después, prepara una clase sobre ese tema. Elabora una presentación, prepara tus notas, redacta un cuestionario con respuestas, o sigue cualquier otra estrategia que suelas emplear al preparar tus cursos. Imagina que debes impartir esa clase a tus colegas. Quizá, en algún momento puedas hacerlo así. Lo que es seguro es que aprenderá sobre el tema, pues estarás usando una estrategia cognitiva que conoces bien y te ha resultado funcional a lo largo de tu carrera.

Al tiempo que actualizas tu propio material, por ello conviene guardarse con fechas, para poder revisar su última edición. Esto te permite retomar los temas anteriores sumando lo nuevo, revisando que lo anterior no sea contradictorio a lo nuevo. Ocurre que muchas veces al volver a leer elijo expresar lo mismo de una forma diferente, ya que también vamos mejorando nuestro estilo personal de redacción. Hasta es posible que abandones temas y que dejes de usarlos, pues me ha ocurrido.

Siempre podemos aprender de conocimientos pasados que se actualizan y regresan cuando le damos nuevos usos o significados. Hoy, les voy a comentar de dos. Los pueden buscar en Google, son muy útiles 1. El ciclo de aprendizaje de Kolb. De tanto usarlo se hace un aprendizaje significativo y aprendes a aprender. Las fases son, revivir la experiencia, reflexión, conceptualización y accionar. Además es una espiral de aprendizaje. Se desprende luego, toda una teoría 2. El modelo Nonaka y Takeuchi. Trata de los dos tipos de conocimiento, el tácito y el explícito. Tiene gran impacto en el aprendizaje social. Hoy, estaba haciendo los ajustes finales de mi cuarta tesis. De repente, reconocí un trabajo autónomo, basado en ambos modelos. #docencia

A mi me ha resultado la práctica reflexiva en el entendido que me ense?a a realizar estrategias dirigidas a ciertos grupos, esto quiere decir que no todos los grupos responden igual ante la misma estrategia. Hemos de ser reflexivos para saber que estrategia, que herramienta interactiva, que tipo de ense?anza podemos aplicar a cada grupo de estudiantes. En algún momento te quedarás sin herramientas o estrategias y empezarás a actualizar las tuyas o realizar un benchmarking de práctica educativas que te den nuevos o mejores resultados.
