I could share an interesting excerpt from one of my fav. Supply chain gurus - David Simchi Levi, under his HBR article, From Superstorms to Factory Fires. So basically, for fairly common risks—poor supplier performance, forecast errors, transportation issues —the traditional methods (ChatGpt Answers ??) work pretty well. But it’s a different ball game for rare, high-impact events such as megadisasters, pandemics, and political issues. The model goes like this, a) Develop a model for the supply chain (SC) to include Time to Recovery and Risk Exposure Index b) Remove one node at a time from the SC network for the duration of the TTR c) Determine the SC response that would minimise the performance impact of the disruption at that node.
